Farms We've Helped to Protect

Over SVT’s 57-year history, we have played a role in protecting many acres of working farmland, from organic community-supported agriculture farms to hayfields of just a few acres. Some of this land was bequeathed by owners who requested that the land be used for agriculture, and some was protected with support from residents, and local and state government.  In some cases, SVT owns the land and leases it to farmers; in others we hold conservation restrictions, which ensure that the land can never be developed but can continue to be used for farming or forestry. In still other cases, we have assisted farmers in raising funds to match state funding through the Agricultural Preservation Restriction (APR) program, in which the state Department of Agricultural Resources holds a restriction on the land. In all cases, these farmlands play a valuable role in protecting habitat, scenic vistas, and a piece of our cultural heritage.
