Welcome to Nature Sightings. Here, we post nature sightings that have been reported to us throughout the Sudbury, Assabet and Concord Rivers Valley.  You'll also find photos from remote wildlife cameras here.  Learn more about our Camera In The Woods project and motion-sensing wildlife cameras.  Also learn about how SVT has helped to monitor wildlife passages beneath route 2 in Concord, and view photos from the project.

Northern Saw-whet Owl Released in Boylston

Andy Cunningham photographed this northern saw-whet owl at Summer Star Wildlife Sanctuary in Boylston. The owl was recently released at the Sanctuary after spending two weeks at the Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine's Bernice Barbour Wildlife Clinic, after being found at a construction site in Worcester. Summer Star Wildlife Sanctuary and the School's partnership will soon be highlighted in the Sanctuary's Cave Room, where visitors will be able to view a live feed from the School's raptor healing cage. Take part in the 55th Concord Christmas Bird Count, and a finch quiz!

National Audubon's 115th winter bird count is fast approaching, and you can take part in the count this year with the Concord CBC on December 28, 2014. The count includes all or portions of 18 towns and is open to new volunteers. Learn more about the count on the Concord CBC web site.
They've also shared a video quiz that may help in identifying some tricky winter finches; are they house finches, purple finches, or...? You can watch the video below, and see their site for more information, and - later in the month - the answers.
