New! SVT Trail Guide: 40 Walks West of Boston

Hamlen Woods

hamlenwoods.jpg
The Hamlen Woods (80.9 acres) tract encompasses open water, swamp, upland forest and the headwaters of Snake Brook, fed by a series of springs and draining from the wetlands. Outstanding natural features include many outcroppings of bedrock, mostly Westborough Quartzite, and a glacier formed kettle-hole.
An hour's comfortable ramble through tranquil forest, including an intriguing transit of an old reservoir with plentiful evidence of beaver activity, can be extended to the SVT's Wilcox Tract. The main trail is moderately easy with some steeper sections near the Wilcox Tract. Additional trails are available across Rice Road on Town of Wayland conservation land, including a climb to the hidden summit of Turkey Hill.
