The Boston Mycological Club, founded in 1895, is the oldest mushroom club in the United States. Attendees will collect representative samples of mushrooms and related fungi, walking the trail in groups of mixed experience. On the walk there is usually lots of informal discussion about mushrooms, fungus ecology, training in what to look for, books, and which wild mushrooms taste the best. After the collection, we'll gather together, sort the collection by type, and then conduct a detailed identification talk where BMC's Identification Committee will explain what the mushrooms are and offer tips for mushroom ID. This is an open discussion session where all mushroom questions are welcome. No experience necessary, just dress for the weather and a walk in the woods. BMC Members: Free

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 30. If you wish to learn more or become involved, please contact Doug Seale at Doug.Seale@comcast.net or at 508-481-2281.
Start: 11:00 am
The meeting location for this event will be in the parking lot at the Great Meadows National Wildlife Headquarters on Weir Hill Road.
Appreciating nature enhances our powers of observation, our joy in being present in nature, and our artistic eye for the natural world. You will share in activities that enable you to observe more effectively, experience the exceptional beauty that is all around, deepen your spiritual connection with the natural world, and gain an appreciation for the interconnectivity of all living things.

Gowing's Swamp, an 8.9 acre, locally rare level bog and vernal pool complex, is nestled in a beautiful, glaciated woodland in Concord - a short walk from Thoreau's family home.  Due to Thoreau’s detailed studies of its inner kettlehole bog and plant life and his 38 references to its ecology and its more primal effects on his own nature, Gowing's Swamp has continued to attract noted writers, naturalists, photographers, and scientists to its shores for more than 150 years.  Cherrie has been studying and communing with the bog for more than 30 years, recently publishing a report for SVT documenting its history and ecology.  This walk will lead you around the bog and over glaciated woodland paths during its’ most colorful season.
