For much of the 19th century Boston was the hub of the ice export business, shipping ice as far as India. Thoreau writes in Walden of 100 men descending on Walden Pond the winter of 1846-47. Shortly after 1704 Joseph Marble relocated from Andover to Sudbury to take up farming. His descendants owned the farm until 1924. The talk will be on the history of the descendants who lived at the site, followed by a walk to the site to see the still-standing stone foundation and walls. Maynard Residents and SVT Members: Free
