Conservation Restriction on Green Street Property, Northborough

Northborough's conservation lands are expanding!  SVT has accepted a gift of a conservation restriction (CR), a land interest in the form of a deed restriction, from the Town of Northborough on 55 acres of beautiful meadows and upland forests on Green Street.  This follows the Town Meeting vote to purchase the property with Community Preservation Act open space funds.
SVT's fund raising campaign for stewardship funds for the CR is now underway and we need your help!   Northborough's Community Preservation Committee graciously contributed some funds to get SVT's stewardship endowment started, but much more is still needed to provide for the permanent protection and care of the Green Street land.  Here’s why:

A CR will assure that the Green Street property is conserved forever and it requires a team of SVT staff to make this happen.  You can learn more about this important property, conservation lands in the Northborough area, and CRs by visiting the Green Street web page under SVT's Land Protection pages.
The Green Street CR will place perpetual limitations on development and certain other uses of the property.   The property will be owned by the Town, and public access for passive recreation will be permitted as soon as trails are created.  The agricultural portions of the land may remain as they are: hayfields and grazing pastures for young cows.
Every CR is tailored to the special features of the land and to the desires of the landowner/donor when the CR is created.  SVT, as the "holder" of the CR, will assume legal obligations to make sure these conditions are maintained, even if the Town were ever to sell the property, because the CR "runs with the land."
Each year, SVT stewardship staff will visit the Green Street property to monitor it, comparing existing conditions with those that are carefully documented when the CR is accepted.  If violations of any CR conditions are ever encountered, SVT must "enforce" the CR by taking appropriate action to make sure the land conforms to the CR's requirements.
SVT manages thousands of acres of conservation land, including numerous CRs.  These properties are cared for and monitored by our professional stewardship staff.  We have created a pooled stewardship fund consisting of "endowments" for these properties to assure that adequate funds will always be available to continue to steward our properties long into the future.
We welcome contributions from our members and from the public.  Your funds will be put to a great use.  Donations may be made on-line or may be mailed to Sudbury Valley Trustees at 18 Wolbach Road, Sudbury, MA  01776.  If you will be donating by mail, please let us know that your contribution is for the protection of the Green Street CR.
SVT is very appreciative to the Town of Northborough for adding the Green Street CR to our ever-expanding portfolio of CRs.  We also extend sincere thanks to you, our supporters, for making any contribution you can to help us protect this very special property, forever!
