SVT will be accepting a gift of a conservation restriction (CR) from the Town of Northborough on 55 acres of meadows and forests on Green Street , following the town’s recent vote to purchase the property with Community Preservation Act open space funds from brothers John and Harry Schunder.  A CR is a perpetual deed restriction in the form of a voluntary agreement between a landowner and a qualified entity, such as SVT, another land trust or a government entity, enabling landowners to retain ownership of their land,  while placing perpetual limitations on development and certain uses for themselves and future owners.   The CR to be given to SVT will assure that the Green Street land remains in conservation forever.
The property has sweeping views across expansive meadows, with Howard Brook meandering through them.  The meadows are managed as hayfields - during parts of the year, they host grazing 2-year old heifers, attracting visitors of all ages who stop to admire these beautiful gentle animals.  Steep sloping woodlands dominate the western half of the property.
SVT also holds a CR on the 62-acre abutting property to the south, which Bill and Ann Rawstron donated to SVT in 2002.  Together, they now comprise a large intact area of protected ecologically, historically and agriculturally import conservation land in a visible rural sector of northwestern Northborough.  SVT is pleased to add this new CR to the thousands of acres of property we manage and protect.  Stay tuned for information about public access once trails have been created and in the meantime, if you are in the area, stop by to visit the heifers!
