While paddling down the Concord River on 4/7/05 at 5:30 pm I encountered two river otters swimming across the river and into a flooded area just a little ways downstream from Sawmill Brook and past the cabin on the river left. The way they were swimming was similar to porpoises, each one rising out of then diving back under the water in graceful arching motions. I followed them into the flooded shallow area and observed them for a minute or so until they became aware of my presence and disappeared. The face was much lighter then rest of body and whiskers
