 Sudbury Valley Trustees will recognize several local conservation leaders for their significant contributions to the preservation and protection of the region’s conservation lands at its 59th Annual Meeting on Sunday, October 21st, starting at 1:00pm.  The meeting will take place at SVT’s headquarters at Wolbach Farms in Sudbury. This event is open to the public, so please come and learn more about the important work of SVT and the contributions of these dedicated conservationists.  

Awards to be presented at this year’s meeting include The Lewis Conservation Award to Skip Duggan of Berlin; The Morgan Volunteer Award to Lauren Kaplan of Sudbury; the SVT Steward of the Land Award to Rebecca Chizzo of Sudbury; and, The Distinguished Public Service Award to Beth Rosenblum of Ashland for her contributions as Conservation Agent for the town of Southborough and as the former Chair of Ashland Open Space, an organization instrumental in the success of the Save Warren Woods campaign. Andre and Christine Navez of Hopkinton and Robert Kamen and Trudi Veldman of Sudbury will receive Life Member Awards. 

This year’s featured speaker is conservation activist Marion Stoddart. When Marion moved to a home near the Nashua River it was severely polluted. Her organizing efforts led to the eventual clean-up of the river and the creation of Nashua River Watershed Association. Marion has been recognized as a citizen leader who has committed a lifetime to grass roots organizing and coalition building for positive social and environmental change. She has been profiled in National Geographic, had a children’s book A River Ran Wild written about  her, received the United Nations Environmental Programme’s Global 500 Award, and is featured in the movie “Work of 1000.”  This movie will be shown prior to the start of the meeting for those interested in knowing more about this remarkable friend to conservation. 

For anyone wanting to learn more about SVT’s planned giving program, Stephen Ziobrowski will be leading a short discussion about estate planning and planned giving options at the conclusion of the business meeting. Including SVT in your estate plan can be part of a smart financial plan, with the added benefit of enhancing local conservation.
